sorry for the language. getting a little excited here. how much did you pay?
and air is a good sound dampener, so that plexiglass or whatever it is should be fine i guess...

So how well does it muffle the sound? Can you stick the camera within a few feet or less of someones face and not pick it up on the mic?

I assume when you mean a few feet away that you mean 5 feet. Inside in a very quiet room you are still going to hear it, but with the barney it's not that bad and as long as the shotgun mic is pointed away from the camera you should be okay (It's not completely gone but very low and easily masked). Outside with a little white noise from the street you can't hear it at all.
On our last shoot it would have been nice to have one of these. After it got dark and the noise from outside the apartment quieted down it was very necessary to have a barney to cut the noise.

Lee at Custom Upholstery Products, http://www.filmtools.com/cup.html also made a Barney for my Nizo 6080, and I want to put in my two cents for him. Using Konton's camera for a model, he made my barney with only a small variation I suggested, and it turned out great. I couldn't be happier with it. It fully surpassed my expectations of both function and form. Very professional work, super courteous communications, and very quick turnaround. So, if you want it done right, contact Lee and Gladys. I know this sounds like a shameless commercial, but I think it's vital to our filmmaking pursuits that quality people like these are given plenty of work so they'll always be here when we need them.
